1.1 million households electrified under NEP – Nigerian govt

The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, said over 1.1 million households across more than 200 mini-grids have been electrified in its Nigeria Electrification Project, NEP.

Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr Abba Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement to DAILY POST after inspection of Vsolaris electricity facilities in Lagos.

According to him, the country’s effort in closing the gap of electricity to the underserved is yielding results with NEP, emphasizing the importance of a private sector collaboration.

Aliyu noted that the agency has also received $750 million in funding in 2024 through the World Bank-funded Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project.

“This capital is specifically intended to act as a springboard to attract an estimated $1.1 billion in additional private-sector investment, with the ultimate goal of providing electricity access to roughly 17.5 million Nigerians through 1,350 new mini grids,” the statement reads.
