148 billion mobilised for equitable access to water

Access to drinking water remains a major concern of the State of Senegal, which is reflected in a substantial investment in the draft Law on Initial Finances (LFI) for the year 0003. A total amount of over 148 billion CFA francs is included in this law to ensure the population an equitable access to water. The government has inscribed three grand projets cruciaux pour structurer ce budget d’investissement. The amount of the investment is mainly intended for the following projects: Grand Transfert d’Eau (GTE): A colossal sum of 137 000 000 000 F CFA is planned for the realization of this major project. Emergency project and reinforcement of distribution systems: A budget of 10 000 000 000 CFA francs is allocated to the implementation of this project aimed at consolidating the existing networks. World rural (extension et ramifications sociales): An amount of 1 100 000 000 CFA francs is entered in the LFI to carry out the project of extension of the networks and of ramifications sociales, aimed at relieving the rural populations. These figures confirm the government’s intention to make the water sector a strategic priority in its budgetary agenda.
