Eric Chelle, head coach of the Super Eagles, stated that he has expressed to his players his desire to win all remaining matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The team revived their chances for qualification with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali last Friday, bolstered by two goals from Victor Osimhen. Prior to facing Rwanda, the Super Eagles had not won in their last four matches, having drawn three and lost one. Following the victory, they climbed to fourth place in Group C with six points, trailing leaders South Africa by four points. Their upcoming match is against Zimbabwe, who sit at the bottom of the group with three points and have yet to secure a win in five games. “I spoke with my players and made it clear that I want to win every game, so I am concentrating on the next match against Zimbabwe. After that, we can focus on our subsequent opponents,” Chelle remarked during a press conference on Monday. “Right now, I want to focus on the game against Zimbabwe, as it holds the utmost significance for my team.” Chelle expressed his happiness for the Super Eagles players after their victory against Rwanda. “This is just one match, and we accomplished what we needed to do. I felt happy for my players and for the nation, but it’s important to remember that this is only one game.” Following the game, I mentioned that our focus should shift to the next match, as it is now our top priority. I felt a sense of pride in my players for their efforts in Rwanda; it was a challenging situation, but they accomplished their task. Therefore, we must concentrate on our team and do everything possible to secure a victory.” Regarding the influence of players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on the Super Eagles, Chelle stated: “There are many talented players in the Nigerian league who can contribute positively to our national squad, but they must understand my team’s style of play. This is why I have selected three players from the league, as they are promising for the future.”
