2027: Arm yourselves with Electoral Act – Enang tells journalists 

Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Africa, Sen. Ita Enang, has urged journalists across the country to read and acquaint themselves with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

He added that such knowledge would help them align their reports with the position of the law.

Enang said every person should have free access to the courts, noting that he would not hesitate to head to the courts if he feels that certain provisions of the Electoral Act were breached.

He gave the charge, weekend during the Unveiling of the Critique Magazine of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, themed: ”From Insight To Action: The Role Of The Media In Shaping The Arise Agenda Legacy.”

Enang, who was the Chairman of the occasion, also noted that Akwa Ibom journalists had the capacity to build democracy and shape the Arise Agenda legacy of Pastor Umo Eno’s administration through positive reportage.

He said,, “In your reportage of politics and activities leading up to the 2027 electoral process, please read first the Electoral Act, and its provisions. Let your reports be aligned with the position of the law and according to the electoral laws of the land.”

He commended the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ for its contributions to the growth of democracy in the State, noting that Akwa Ibom had continued to evolve its development narrative, aligning the ARISE Agenda with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current federal administration.

‎In his keynote address, the Chairman of TopFaith University, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, called on journalists to align their reportage with the development-driven vision of the state government under Governor Umo Eno.

He also urged them to “intentionally approach ARISE Agenda with determined philosophical focus to strengthen its deeper meaning so as to become a long-term development roadmap that will outlive the current administration of the state.

The Media Manager, Sumedha Energy Limited and Ibom Developers, Aniekeme Finbarr in a goodwill message, described the media as partners in progress.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Bassey Anthony, thanked the guests for turning up for the occasion, stressing that their presence underscored the high regard they had for the media.
