2027: Wike is our national leader, we have no factions in PDP – Amah Abraham

Amah Abraham, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State, has declared that there is no factions in the party, insisting that what exists in the PDP at the moment is the mainstream of the party with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike as the national leader.

Amah said that as it stands, the PDP will have no presidential candidate for the 2027 general election as it has adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and incumbent president, Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Arise News, the Abia PDP leader said those who are not comfortable with the party’s decision are free to find another suitable one for their political ambitions.

There were stories over the weekend that the Wike side of the PDP denied reports that they would support President Tinubu’s re-election, saying that they are willing to field their own candidate.

Amah said, “I plead with Arise management to remove this issue of faction. This is the mainstream of the party, as recognized by the law. You can describe those who are not in the mainstream with whatever words you like. I will not provide you with the words to describe them. But this is the mainstream and the former governor of River State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, today is the national leader of the mainstream of the People’s Democratic Party.

“He’s not a factional leader. He is a leader of the mainstream, recognized by law, recognized by INEC, which is saddled with the regulation of managing elections in Nigeria. He is the leader of the team. So we are the mainstream. We are not a faction, and we are heading to a national convention.

“Conversations are going on. As a member of the National Executive Committee of our party, I can assure you, without fear of anybody, that my ears have heard people who believe that this party can have a presidential candidate who can challenge President Tinubu.

“We have also asked those people, where are the presidential candidates? Because when you are approaching the election, which is less than one year from now, we should know who is, who? Presidential candidates must have shown themselves. We don’t just talk, we consider what is possible.

“And we have those who also believe that, as it stands today, as a result of the crisis we have passed through, that a lot of people who will have ordinary consider the PDP as a platform of to pursue their presidential vision that those people have all withdrawn to their shells are mindful of that the way forward is for this party to endorse president for his second time.”
