In the framework of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Daande Leñol (The Voice of the People) of which he is the undisputed leader, the star of Senegalese music, Baaba Maal, was received, this Monday 3 November 2025, by the Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani. L’audience a eu lieu à Nouakchott, après une belle prestation de l’artiste à l’occasion d’un dîner de gala pour célébrer quatre décennies de gloire et de succès de son orchestre, placé sous le thème “Cultural diplomacy, a factor of peace and cohesion” (The audience took place in Nouakchott, after a beautiful performance by the artist on the occasion of a gala dinner to celebrate four decades of glory and success of his orchestra, which was held under the theme “Cultural diplomacy, a factor of peace and cohesion” (Cultural diplomacy, a factor of peace and cohesion). In a meeting marked by fraternity, the Mauritanian head of state and Baab Maal exchanged views on the role of culture as a lever of rapprochement between the peoples of Senegal and Mauritania, two nations united by history, language and music. In this context, the ambassador of the Grand Théâtre national de Dakar confirms his status as a leader of opinion and a cultural federator on the international scene. Baaba Maal also aims to promote a cultural diplomacy based on dialogue, peace and African brotherhood. A global artist whose role in the valorisation of African cultures and its diaspora is hailed everywhere, the singer expressed his gratitude to Mauritania, a land of sharing and fraternity. The year 2025 marks a turning point for Baaba Maal et son orchestre, after 40 years on the international stage.
