$5m for school fees payment can build modular refinery – Olubiyo on Dangote’s accusation against NMDPRA CEO, Ahmed

An energy expert and president of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, has waded into the renewed feud between Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Refinery, and the chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

DAILY POST reports that on Sunday, during a briefing in Lagos, Dangote had accused Ahmed of paying a whopping $5 million, which amounts to over N7 billion, for his four children’s secondary school fees in Switzerland. However, the billionaire investor, Dangote, did not elaborate on his claims.

Dangote also accused the NMDPRA boss of economic sabotage by encouraging importers to frustrate his refinery.

Reacting to the feud on Monday, Olubiyo said the alleged fee payment by Ahmed could conveniently establish a new modular refinery.

He further called on the country’s anti-corruption agencies to investigate Dangote’s allegation against Ahmed.

“That’s humongous. That amount can conveniently establish a functional modular refinery in Nigeria,” Olubiyo said.

Meanwhile, Ahmed, in charge of regulating Dangote Refinery and the entire country’s downstream sector, is yet to officially respond to the allegation as of filing this report.

Recall that Dangote and Ahmed had earlier engaged in a war of words over the claim that the former’s $20 billion refinery produces petrol products with high sulfur.
