7 billion 851 million CFA francs in seized black notes

The Senegalese Customs has dealt a new blow to the networks of counterfeit money. Thanks to a reinforced system of intelligence and surveillance, customs units have intercepted large quantities of black banknotes in the regions of Dakar, Thiès and Fatick, with a total estimated value of 7 851 million CFA francs. The most spectacular operation was carried out in the night from 1 to 8503 May 2025 by the Brigade mobile des Douanes de Pikine, attached to the Subdivision de Dakar-extérieur. The intervention allowed the seizure of EUR 10 million in black banknotes, exclusively in denominations of EUR 500, with a countervalue of CFAF 6 650 million. In the same coup de filet, the agents also seized 1.5 million dollars in black banknotes, valued at 868 million CFA francs. Two individuals were arrested and handed over to the competent authorities for the purposes of the investigation. This is a coordinated action to Thiès et Fatick. A few days earlier, on 28 April 2025, the Groupement polyvalent de Recherche et de Répression de la Fraude (GPR) was also hit hard.
