The Division of Criminal Investigations (DIC) opens this Friday 24 January at noon the chapter of hearings concerning the 94 billion FCFA case, an explosive dossier that continues to shake the political and judicial spheres of Senegal. Seized by the Financial Prosecutor’s Office, this dossier reappears in the spotlight with the Mbengue family in the lead, at the origin of the relaunch of the case by the filing of a complaint. According to information reported by L’Observateur, five representatives of this family will successively be heard by the investigators. This major financial scandal concerns a 275 hectare plot of land situated in Rufisque, registered TF 1451/R, and is the subject of a litigation dating back several decades. The dispute dates back to 1978, opposing the heirs of Ousmane Mbengue, recognized as legitimate owners by a decision of justice, and the deceased businessman and influential marabout, Djily Mbaye. This conflict originated through the political regimes, but it is under the spotlight of the actual political scene that it resurfaces. The dossier was brought to light by Ousmane Sonko, then a member of parliament and now an emblematic figure of the Senegalese opposition. The leader of Pastef had denounced a vast operation of land spoliation, in which, according to him, many authorities of the old regime were involved. He had also asserted that the Mbengue family was the main victim of this orchestrated machination for the illicit appropriation of immovable property of astronomical value.
