Aïssatou Sophie Gladima, former Minister of Mines and Geology, was granted a temporary liberty to wear an electronic bracelet on Monday following her appearance before the Commission d’instruction de la Haute Cour de justice. The information has been confirmed by his lawyer, Me Babacar Cissé.. This was his second hearing on the substance, after a first one held on 11 June last, in the framework of the investigation on the construction of a gravimetry centre in Kédougou. On this occasion, the former Minister once again rejected in full the charges brought against her, in particular those of alleged fraud on public funds, money laundering and complicity. Moreover, the amount initially charged, valued at 193 million FCFA, has been revised downwards and is now estimated at 73 million FCFA. Me Babacar Cissé clarified that the release of his client was conditional on the payment of the amount due to the public treasury. “She is being held in prison because the amount has not yet been paid… If the formalities are met, she should be cleared and released in the next few days”, he declared. It should be recalled that Ibrahima Issa, representative of the Société Commerciale du Groupe Issa (SCGI), the public procurement agent, had been the first to be heard by the Court on 11 June. He claimed to have already acquired the material necessary to carry out the project, for an amount of 119 879 070 FCFA, and to have waited for the site to be made available by the State, via the ministry concerned, to start the work, estimated at 73 200 000 FCFA.
