Belinda Bencic, the 2020 Olympic champion, has stated she is prepared to take on Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Bencic, who made her return to the WTA Tour earlier this year following the birth of her child, secured her spot in the last four by defeating Mirra Andreeva with scores of 7-6(3) 7-6(2). This marks her second time reaching the semi-finals in a major tournament. It’s noteworthy that Bencic began the year ranked outside the top 400, having spent most of 2024 away from the sport after welcoming her daughter Bella. After Wimbledon, she is expected to climb back into the top 20 as she aims to secure her first Grand Slam title. “I feel a great sense of pride,” she shared with Tennis. Throughout my entire career, I rarely told myself this, but ever since Bella came into my life, I now say it every day. I couldn’t achieve this without my incredible family and fantastic team; we put in a lot of effort for this comeback. Now, we are relishing our time on tour with Bella, and playing well is just an added benefit. I’m simply thrilled to be able to play again since my body permits it.
