Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as the Democratic Party’s president on Monday morning after months of unrest in his party. “This state deserves a genuine alternative in the next election, and it has become apparent to me that if I’m having to fight internal conflicts, I cannot be the best solution in that vote”, Trudeau said during the announcement.
When the schoolteacher was elected district MP in 2008, Trudeau’s meteoric rise to power took off in the use of Papineau. Five years later, he was in charge of the Democratic party, which had been badly hampered by a 2011 vote and saw them slide far behind the NDP in terms of seats in the Commons. Therefore in 2015, he followed in his father’s feet as he became the second-youngest prime minister in Canadian history.
While some people who live in Montreal using Papineau have fond remembrances of the prime minister, they even believe he made the right decision to move away. Giovanni Bonadonna’s barbershop has been a fixture in Papineau riding for years, and the Romanian refugee is glad to have met the perfect secretary several times.
“Very nice guy. Gentleman number one”, he told Global News. “He was around a lot in the neighborhood, meeting people and everything. Trudeau was very nice when he was elected for the first time in 2008 in the riding. It’s considered one of the most diverse and immigrant-rich ridings in the country. Bonadonna claimed that the polls indicated that his party’s support needed to be cut down.
“I feel bad for him, but that’s a good decision”, he said. Trudeau, according to a coffee shop owner in the area, struggled alongside immigrants like him. ” Everybody, all the people around, all the talking about the immigration. He claimed that he had brought in a lot of people over, but they had stopped the good ones.
The owner of a produce farm in the area, Faisal Amin, revealed to the Canadian Press that he is a big fan of Trudeau on a personal level but believes it is time for him to leave. According to Almin, it will be best for Canada to employ someone with fresh ideas because they are economically stressed. At a local dog park, Isabelle Chicoine said she had voted for Trudeau in the past, but says he has lost the public’s confidence.
