The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) has stated that the late former President Muhammad Buhari will have an enduring legacy in Nigeria’s history. The forum also mentioned that it was informed about the death of General. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) GCFR, the former military Head of State and recently retired civilian President of Nigeria, expressed his sorrow and deep reflection. In a joint statement, Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Dr. Citrus Pogu, representing the Afenifere and Middle Belt Forum, remarked that despite Buhari’s impressive military background, he dedicated himself to democratic values. They highlighted his resilience through numerous unsuccessful electoral bids until he ultimately triumphed in the Presidential Election of 2025 after three attempts, marking a historic return to national significance through democracy. The announcement noted that while his eight-year presidency was characterized by various results, featuring economic difficulties, security issues, and attempts at reform, it still represents a significant period in Nigeria’s path towards democracy. Additionally, the statement remarked, “SMBLF recognizes Buhari’s steadfast commitment to democracy.” His name will have a lasting place in the records of Nigerian history. The group expressed their sincere sympathies to his family, friends, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hoping that his spirit may achieve everlasting peace.
