The Osun Amotekun Corps has detained three suspects linked to different crimes, including rape, burglary, and theft of property valued at millions of naira. A statement from Corps Commander Isaac Omoyele, and signed by Public Relations Officer Yusuf Idowu Abass, revealed that these arrests stemmed from intelligence-led operations throughout the state. One suspect, Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old mason, was taken into custody for reportedly breaking into an uncompleted house in Osogbo, the state capital. Omoyele explained that after work hours, Adekunle unlawfully accessed the construction site and stole electrical tools and materials worth approximately N2.5 million. “Following days of surveillance and intelligence work, our operatives tracked him to his home and retrieved the stolen items,” said Omoyele. Another suspect, 23-year-old Lawal Musa, a tailor from Kaduna living in Sabo, was apprehended for stealing household items valued over N800,000. Omoyele noted that among the recovered items were a flat-screen TV, electrical cables, and two large standing fans. “During questioning, Musa confessed to selling the TV for N27,000 and the fans for N30,000 to a man named Rilwan, also from Sabo. Investigations are ongoing to find out if Rilwan is part of a bigger criminal operation involving stolen goods,” the Amotekun Commander mentioned. In a different case in Ede, a 29-year-old tailor and commercial motorcyclist, Lekan Bakare, was arrested for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman at gunpoint. “The victim reported that the suspect had called her to help him find his missing ward.” When he reached his home in the Alusekere area, Bakare reportedly displayed a homemade gun and a knife, using them to coerce and assault her sexually. “The victim brought the matter to our Ede office, and we responded without delay.” Omoyele confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended and has admitted to the offense. He emphasized that all suspects have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings. The Amotekun Commander commended the community for their prompt reporting of information and promised that the agency will persist in its fight against crime. He stated, “We will not cease our efforts until every neighborhood is secure from dangers and the perpetrators are held accountable.”
