The Police command in Akwa Ibom State has announced the arrest of two individuals for allegedly vandalizing a transformer in Ikot Imoh village, located in the Ikot Abasi local government area. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, provided this information in a statement to reporters in Uyo on Saturday. The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, July 17, at around 5:45 AM while they were attempting to damage the transformer. The arrests were made following a report from a local resident (name withheld) who noticed suspicious activities near the transformer installation, prompting the Police to act swiftly. Upon arriving at the location, officers found the two suspects but other members of their group managed to escape. Authorities detained two suspects, Asuquo Effiong, 29, from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA in Akwa Ibom State, and Chidiebere Onwe, 30, from Nkanu LGA in Enugu State. When the gang members saw the police, they quickly escaped from the area. The PPRO pointed out the items found at the location, which included two seventeen-piece combination flat spanners, a hose pipe, a large heavy-duty cutter, and a pipe wrench with a socket. She mentioned that investigations are still in progress and that suspects will be taken to court once the investigations are complete.
