The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for alleging that President Bola Tinubu exploited the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political purposes. The APC dismissed these claims as “baseless, reckless, and inappropriate,” asserting that the President’s participation in memorials and tribute speeches demonstrated genuine loyalty and responsible leadership. In a statement released on Saturday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo condemned the ADC’s comments as “deeply disrespectful,” emphasizing that the late Buhari should be honored with dignity rather than being used as a political pawn. “It is regrettable that the ADC, in its quest for relevance, opted to diminish a period of national mourning merely to attract media attention,” Oladejo remarked. He also highlighted that President Tinubu and President Buhari shared a relationship built on mutual respect, democratic values, and a dedication to national progress. His involvement in memorial events and sincere tributes demonstrates true leadership rather than self-serving motives. Oladejo stated that the ADC’s effort to make a serious national occasion political shows how out of touch the party is with the current sentiments in the nation. He claimed that the party is taking advantage of sorrow to create unwarranted discord. “Instead of demonstrating compassion, the ADC has opted for petty political drama.” He remarked that this behavior is not just hypocritical but also fraudulent, particularly from a party that holds minimal electoral influence. The APC urged the ADC to sincerely apologize to the late President’s family, the Nigerian people, and the Presidency, stressing the importance of prioritizing national unity over political disagreements. “As the nation requires unity over division, we encourage Nigerians to dismiss such reckless remarks. We will not tolerate any additional disrespect towards the legacy of this national figure.” The statement indicated that President Tinubu’s priorities include governance, security, economic revitalization, and honoring the legacies of past leaders who served the nation with dignity.
