WAFCON 2024: South Africa’s Coach Ellis Says They Know How to Defeat Super Falcons

Desiree Ellis, the head coach of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, has issued a warning to Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their semi-final clash in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The reigning champions secured their spot by defeating Senegal 4-1 on penalties in a dramatic quarter-final match on Saturday night, with Andile Dlamini emerging as the standout player by making two vital saves during the shootout. The match against Nigeria is set to take place on Tuesday at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. The Super Falcons prevented Banyana Banyana from qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Justine Madugu’s team decisively defeated Zambia’s Copper Queens 5-0 in the quarter-finals at the 2024 WAFCON finals on Friday. Statistically, Nigeria excels in several areas: leading in scoring with nine goals and having the best defense, having not allowed any goals. Nonetheless, Ellis is optimistic about their chances against the nine-time champions, stating, “We understand the significance of this match.” “We understand the requirements to overcome Nigeria,” Ellis stated to CAFonline, as reported by Adeboye Amosu.
