The increase in the subscription price of Canal+: SOS Consommateurs is at the top of the list and denounces…

In a note published by Seneweb on Tuesday, July 25th, Ms Massokhna Kane, President of the Senegalese Association for the Defence of Consumers (SOS Consommateurs), denounces the increase in the subscription price of Canal+. Following the authorities’ inquiry into the unpaid royalties, Canal+ decided unilaterally to increase its subscription tariffs without informing consumers. “This constitutes a lack of respect and consideration for its subscribers”, he declares. “She wants to make her subscribers pay the royalties that the State demands from her on her business figures. This is unjust and unacceptable”, he said. Maitre Kane explains that “this tariff revision has the consequence of increasing the subscription from 210 000 F to 5 500 F, the one from 10 000 to 11 5003 F, the one from 15 000 to 16 500 F, the one from 20 000 to 22 000 F and the one from 52 000 to 72 500 F CFAF, i.e. an increase of 10% on all its subscription offers in Senegal”. Judicial procedure against Canal+. Maitre Kane d’informer que la charge fiscale imposée par l’État a clairement été répercutée sur les abonnés, sans effort d’amortissement ou d’adaptation du côté de Canal+, conduisant à une charge supplémentaire pour le consommateur final. (Maitre Kane d’informer that the tax burden imposed by the State has clearly been passed on to the subscribers, without any effort of amortisation or adaptation on the part of Canal+, leading to an additional burden for the final consumer.) That is why, he argues, SOS Consommateurs asks all subscribers to regroup, sign a petition and prepare to initiate a judicial procedure against Canal+. “We demand from now on that the authorities take up this complaint and examine the matter to preserve the rights of consumers”, he said. “SOS Consommateurs has made available to all consumers the Yoolé complaint platform, in order to collect all complaints”, he said.
