Ogenyi Onazi, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, has signed with Acireale, a club in Italy’s Serie D, according to Completesports. The specific terms of the contract were not revealed by the humble club. The defensive midfielder began his professional career in Italy at Lazio. Onazi spent four years with Lazio, during which he secured the Coppa Italia title with the team in the 2012/13 season. Additionally, it was announced that a Namibian referee has been appointed by CAF for the Morocco vs. Super Falcons match in WAFCON 2024. The ex-Golden Eaglets player netted four goals in 76 matches for Lazio in all competitions. Onazi subsequently signed with Trabzonspor, clinching the Turkish Cup in the 2019/20 season. He also played in Turkey for Denizlispor, and Zalgiris Vilnius in Lithuania, as well as for Italian lower league teams Casertana and Avezzano. Onazi was a member of the Super Eagles team that secured the Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa in 2013. He represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cup tournaments: Brazil in 2014 and Russia in 2018.
