Esther Okoronkwo is thrilled after aiding the Super Falcons in securing the championship at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. She shined in the final as the team came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses. The 27-year-old scored a penalty in the 64th minute and then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi’s equalizer just seven minutes later. Additionally, Lawal praised the Super Falcons for their impressive comeback win against Morocco, calling them the best team in Africa. She assisted substitute Jennifer Echegini for the decisive goal just two minutes before the end. The ex-UD Tenerife player was thrilled to secure her first WAFCON title with the Super Falcons, saying, “I am extremely happy to be a champion.” The goals scored in the first half were unfortunate. “That’s typical in football,” Okoronkwo remarked post-game. “Once we got to the locker room, we rallied our determination, knowing it was do or die.” The Moroccan squad has great teamwork; they were a formidable opponent.
