A scene of horror worthy of a dramatic film has occurred at Saly Portudal, sur la Petite-Côte. The events took place on the night of Tuesday 5 to Wednesday 6 August, at around 2 o’clock in the morning, at the residence “Les Diamantines”, situated on the Nguerigne road, behind the La Tanière hotel complex. Armed with machetes, hunting rifles, knives and hammers, the men broke into the home of Mrs Lydia Assani. L’architecte béninoise, installed à Saly Portudal depuis une dizaine d’années, était alors à l’étranger pour des raisons professionnelles. The architect from Benin, who had been based in Saly Portudal for a decade, was then abroad for professional reasons. In his absence, only his children, all of the young girls, were present. According to L’Observateur, the assailants, after having neutralized the five guards in charge of the security of the residence, all tied up, headed towards the villa principale. Their first target was the femme de ménage’s room, where one of the landlady’s daughters, a seven-year-old girl, slept.
Saly Portudal: A private residence is attacked by burglars, a young and important girl is assaulted, diamonds and a safe are stolen.
