A scandal has rocked the city of Ziguinchor: ten municipal agents have been arrested by the police for illegal demolition of a building in the Boucotte Sindian district, on the outskirts of the commune. According to Libération, which gives the information, the case began with the interrogation of three municipal officials, sent to the Yamatogne police station and then transferred to the public prosecutor’s office. Seven other agents were subsequently arrested and placed in custody. They should be presented to the prosecutor this Tuesday, before an eventual transfer to the Maison d’arrêt et de correction de Ziguinchor. Le maire serait-il impliqué? He is not involved. According to a source inside the mayor’s office cited by the newspaper, these agents had acted on the instructions of mayor Djibril Sonko. The latter, as well as his chargé des affaires juridiques, M. Niang, contacted by Libération, refused to comment on the matter. L’enquête est toujours en cours, et aucun des agents n’avait encore bénéficié de l’assistance d’un avocat au moment des faits rapportés, précise la même source. The investigation is still ongoing, and none of the agents had yet benefited from the assistance of a lawyer at the time of the reported facts, the same source states.
