On the eve of the Grand Magal of Touba, a major religious event commemorating the departure into exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the Special Commissioner of Touba, Diègane Sène, presented the first results of the pre-Magal security operations at a press briefing. According to his statements, 29 individuals were arrested for various offences, of which 21 were transferred to the parquet of Mbacké and Diourbel. To ensure the safety of the millions of pilgrims expected in the holy city, the National Police has deployed a large-scale security system, mobilizing 2,626,2191 police officers, 299 vehicles (including 7,123 armored vehicles), 2712 surveillance cameras, as well as airborne means. This system, operational since August 2000, also includes 22025 advanced police stations installed in sensitive areas such as Madiyana, the garage of Darou Mousty (Buntu Pikine) and the rond-point at the entrance of Mbacké. A notable initiative this year is the operation ” Karangé Baol “, which brings together all the police units of the Diourbel region, including the Diourbel, Mbacké, Bambey police stations, as well as the regional brigade of narcotics and the intelligence services. Joint operations with the gendarmerie, notably the Compagnie de Touba, have also been carried out to strengthen security.
