Unilorin denies Dr. Wale Fasakin’s assertion regarding his role as president of the institution’s alumni.

On Wednesday, officials at the University of Ilorin criticized Dr. Wale Fasakin for still claiming to be the president of the alumni association, even after a new executive committee led by Professor Abdulrazaq Olubusuyi Kilani was elected on August 24, 2024. The university’s management stated that they were fully informed about the leadership change in the alumni association, which is now under Prof. Kilani’s leadership. Abdulrazaq Olubusuyi Kilani.. The university has urged all corporate entities, government officials, and other concerned individuals and stakeholders to stop engaging with Dr. Fasakin or conducting any business with him, as he is no longer an official of the association and cannot represent it. In a statement to reporters in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, stated, “Dr. Fasakin’s tenure ended in 2021 following a resolution passed by the association’s congress.” He stated that “a caretaker committee was established, which managed the association’s activities until the congress in August 2024, where the new executive committee led by Kilani was elected.” DAILY POST states that the former president recently led a group on what was described as a ‘courtesy visit’ to Mrs. Kemi Nandap, an alumna of the university and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service. They claimed the visit was made by the National Executive Committee of the Unilorin alumni association. Mr. Akogun mentioned, “Though the university management prefers not to interfere in the alumni association’s internal matters, it can no longer remain passive while needless conflicts threaten the association’s unity.” The institution’s spokesperson stated: “The management values the importance of the association and its ability to positively impact the university’s overall development, and will therefore continue to actively support internal peace and harmony within the association.” Mr. Akogun urged Dr. Fasakin to cease claiming to be the national president of the Unilorin alumni association, particularly since the new executive committee has already been established.
