Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has criticized attempts to drive a divide between President Bola Tinubu and Northern governors regarding the contentious tax reform bills at the National Assembly. He stated that the governors who supported Tinubu’s rise to power have never opposed him and are not doing so now. Governor Sule shared this information on Friday during a visit from a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House in Lafia. He clarified that the northern governors are advocating for more discussions regarding the tax reform bill currently before the National Assembly, which includes the Value Added Tax. He alleged that certain vested interests are disseminating misinformation to create political unrest by wrongly suggesting that the northern governors oppose the president. Sule mentioned that individuals who were against Tinubu’s presidency are now pretending to support him more than his actual supporters. He added that those claiming the northern governors are opposing the President are mistaken; no one is actually fighting the President. How could you oppose a President who has benefited your image? This is the reality. “We’re just saying that there are certain elements we need to examine,” he stated. Sule expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for implementing policies that have simplified governance and development in Nasarawa State without incurring debt, noting that he couldn’t oppose a leader who has significantly contributed to the state’s advancement. The governor emphasized the importance of gaining a clearer understanding of some aspects of the tax reform bills. “We requested the bills to be withdrawn in order to examine certain aspects.” They stated that the language is incorrect and that amendments can be made without having to withdraw the bills. I said that’s okay.
