MNJTF forces have killed 310 terrorists in the Lake Chad area.

Forces from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have eradicated 310 terrorists and disrupted essential supply bases in the Lake Chad area. The troops also eliminated these terrorists during Operation Lake Sanity 2, a significant campaign aimed at fighting insurgency in the region. The operation was led by Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Salau shared this information during the MNJTF Operation Lake Sanity 23 Medal Parade on Wednesday at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad. He noted that the MNJTF has achieved significant successes, aiding the return of over 30,000 refugees and internally displaced individuals, which has helped restore normalcy in their lives. Salau reported that the operation, which took place from April 23 to July 22, 2024, successfully dismantled key terrorist logistic bases, resulted in the deaths of 310 terrorists, and led to the arrest of 160 logistic suppliers and informants. He added that more than 800 terrorists and their families surrendered, signaling a decrease in support for terrorism. The commander recognized the efforts of operations like Amnifakat, Gamma Aiki, Yankin Tafki 1 and 2, and Lake Sanity 2, crediting their progress to the strong support from the troop-contributing countries and the Lake Chad Basin Development Commission. “The collaboration of ground troops and air forces from Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria created six powerful task forces united against terrorism,” he stated. Limited air support from the Nigerien Republic also played a role in the success of the operation, he stated. Salau noted that compensation ceremonies were previously conducted for fallen and injured soldiers in Cameroon and Nigeria, with a similar event planned for Sector 2 in Chad to honor their memory. He explained that the ceremony in Chad aims to pay tribute to the sacrifices of soldiers during Operation Lake Sanity 2, which resulted in several casualties and many injuries among the troops. Salau praised development partners for their support in enhancing regional security and stability. Chadian Defense Minister Mr. Issaka Malloua Djamous reaffirmed the commitment to peace and security in the region. Djamous characterized Operation Lake Sanity as a crucial step in combating Boko Haram, emphasizing the destruction of terrorist bases and the neutralization of various threats. He urged troops to remain vigilant against changing terrorist strategies, highlighting the need for improved human and material resources. The minister acknowledged the European Union and other partners for their assistance with training and equipment, and called for stronger regional cooperation and collective commitment among member states. The event was attended by the governors of the Lake Chad countries, the Chief of Defense of the Lake Chad countries, traditional leaders, and other high-ranking government officials.
