The Dakar City Council Bureau meets this Monday to determine the date of the election of the new mayor of the capital. Since the revocation of Barthélémy Dias, Ngoné Mbengue (Taxawu) has been acting as interim mayor. Invited by the Minister of Territorial Collectivities, the Prefect of Dakar invited her to settle the question, thus marking the official launch of the process. The negotiations for the succession of Dias are intensifying. While Taxawu wishes to retain the post, the former mayor has to weigh in on the debates, while the Pastef government seeks to impose its own candidate. No official candidacy has yet been declared, but two names are emerging within Taxawu Sénégal: that of Ngoné Mbengue, acting interim mayor, and that of Babacar Mbengue, mayor of Hann-Bel Air. This division creates tensions within the movement of Khalifa Sall. According to Les Échos, deux courants se dessinent, the supporters of Ngoné Mbengue invoke the jurisprudence of Soham Wardini (who became mayor after the revocation of Khalifa Sall in 2018).
