While he was flying over Italy, last Saturday, an Airbus A320 of the Condor airline was caught on fire. The panic of the passengers on board contrasted with the calm of the pilots who were able to make an emergency landing at Brindisi airport. In reality, it was the right engine of the plane that had caught fire shortly after its takeoff from Corfu, in Greece. “Suddenly, we heard a loud noise, then the flames caught the engine”, a passenger told Bild. The explosions were repeated, creating a panic on board. “I sent him farewell messages, because I thought it was over”. It was a terrible experience. I sent messages of farewell, because I thought it was over”, declared a woman who was with her daughter, both sitting near the reactors. According to an official communiqué of the German airline, the fire was caused by an external combustion in the engine. The air traffic to Brindisi was interrupted for about half an hour to allow the firefighters to intervene on the runway.
