Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), criticized All Progressives Congress (APC) member Ayekooto Akindele on Monday. Eze was reacting to Akindele’s remarks aimed at African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi. Akindele had claimed that Atiku and Obi have never won elections in Nigeria. In response, Eze contended that if Akindele refers to credible elections, then both have not participated in such elections in Nigeria, making his comparison unreasonable. Eze condemned Akindele’s statement as a desperate bid for attention, labeling it as nonsense and demonstrating ignorance. He further stated, “The insinuation by the so-called Akindele that Amaechi hasn’t won any election since Wike left him is provocative and a baseless attempt to gain cheap popularity.” Eze remarked that Akindele’s statement reveals his lack of understanding about Amaechi’s role in Nigeria’s politics. “While I don’t intend to give credibility to someone like Ayekooto Akindele who is seeking public attention, it’s necessary to correct his false claims to prevent the public from believing such a grave misconception,” he stated. Eze pointed out that Wike has publicly acknowledged that Peter Obi won the election in Rivers State, attributing that victory, in Wike’s usual way, to Bola Tinubu. “Demonstrating his ignorance, Akindele overlooked the fact that Amaechi was the Campaign Director General who managed President Muhammadu Buhari’s elections during his two campaigns as the APC candidate.” Which election did Amaechi not win? Eze inquired, “Has Amaechi run for any election since departing from the Rivers State Government House, or are you referring to the APC Presidential Primaries, which were a farce and a shame for the entire world, where it was auctioned off to the highest bidder? If that’s what you meant, then you lack a clear understanding of what an election entails,” Eze continued.
