MEP Guy Marius Sagna expressed his firm opposition to the debt contracted under the former regime of Macky Sall, calling it “illegitimate debt” and “odious debt”. Addressing his followers on Facebook, he declared: ” Macky and his regime have lied to the Senegalese people about the debt. The IMF lied and continues to lie to the Senegalese people because the IMF knew and protected Macky in order not to facilitate the access to power of the patriots and the Senegalese people who wanted the change. I’m not sure. The parliamentarian added: “The Senegalese people will not pay for the pots broken by the lies and manipulations of Macky and the IMF. The Senegalese people did not pay the debt of Macky and the IMF. I’m not sure. Guy Marius Sagna thus calls for a collective refusal to pay these debts, which he considers illegitimate and contrary to the interests of the population. For the record, between 2019 and 2024, the IMF revealed the existence of a “hidden” debt of about 7 billion dollars (or about 4 500 billion FCFA), not accounted in the previous official figures.
