In a whirlwind of political events that marked a turning point for the Senegalese capital, Abass Fall, Minister of Labour, Employment and Relations with Institutions, and emblematic figure of the Pastef les Patriotes party, was elected mayor of Dakar on Monday 25 August 2025. A few hours after his inauguration at the Hôtel de Ville, he made a triumphant entrance to the National Assembly, where he was greeted by a standing ovation from the Chamber. This rapid sequence illustrates the consolidation of Pastef’s power in Dakar, following the dismissal of former mayor Barthélémy Dias. With hardly any money invested, Abass returned to the National Assembly for a session in progress. His arrival was greeted by a standing ovation of the deputies, a symbolic moment captured in several videos circulating on social networks.
