The Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced, by means of a circular letter, the lifting of the ceiling on onion imports. The decision came after the exhaustion of the local production stocks, which had allowed to cover the national market for nine months. “With the exhaustion of local stocks observed, it appears necessary to guarantee a regular and adequate supply of the internal market”, states the document signed by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Serigne Guèye Diop. The measure is aimed at ensuring the availability of this large-scale consumer product on the Senegalese market. The Ministry informs that the import authorisations are subject to a quota and will remain valid until 31 December 2025, de rigueur period. The implementation of this decision will be carried out in collaboration with the Agence de Régulation des Marchés (ARM) and the Interprofession oignon du Sénégal (IPOS).
