Education: the ban on mobile phones at school is in force

It is a change that will make a lot of ink in the course of recreation, and probably even around the family tables. The Ministry of National Education has announced that the portable telephone, the faithful companion of the students, is now formally prohibited in the school premises. This decision, perceived by some as a step backwards, is in fact part of an affirmed will to protect the sanctuary of the school environment. We’re not just talking about distraction. The prolonged and unregulated use of smartphones is pointed out for its many evils: it would impair concentration, hinder the development of the critical mind, promote social isolation, and even pose health risks. The Minister seems determined to restore calm and serenity in the classrooms, thus curbing the wave of incivility and cyber-harassment that can unfortunately accompany the use of these devices. Of course, some exceptions are provided for students in a situation of handicap, but the rule is clear for the great majority.
