Clarification on the incident during the speech of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the UN

On 22 September 2025, during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye experienced an unexpected moment at the podium. As he prepared to deliver his speech, he noticed that the document was not in place, causing a brief silence that provoked reactions on social networks and in the media. This incident, qualified as a protocol error, was quickly resolved, allowing the President to deliver a powerful plea in favour of world peace, notably for the Palestinian people in Gaza. According to the reports, President Faye arrived at the podium and whispered to the moderator: “They have taken the speech which they have not deposited. “After a few seconds of silence, the protocol of the United Nations intervened to put the document in place. The incident lasted only a short time, and the President was able to continue without hindrance. A clarification circulated on the networks, attributed to Abdu Karim, explaining that the predecessor of President Faye on the podium had picked up by mégarde l’ensemble des discours en repartant.
