The Shura Council established by the Kano State government has called on Islamic preacher Sheikh Lawan Shuaibu Abubakar to respond to accusations of blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam. The Secretary to the State Government submitted all petitions and responses regarding Sheikh Lawan Shuaibu Abubakar to the Shura Committee for examination. Following a meeting of the Shura Council on this issue, State Commissioner for Commerce, Shehu Sagagi, stated that the petitions and responses were discussed. Ultimately, the committee, chaired by the Waliyan Kano, decided to invite all parties involved: the petitioners, the counter-petitioners, and the individual named in the petition. “Malam Lawan Abubakar Shuaibu Abubakar Triumph will be summoned to respond to the concerns raised by both sides. Following his explanation, the committee will evaluate the interactions with all parties and make decisions based on rigorous Islamic law,” he stated. Sagagi mentioned that the Shura Council would then provide recommendations to the state government based on these findings. “This is the resolution reached today.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony within the state, especially since among the seven states in the northwest, only Kano seems to be peaceful. He called on everyone to uphold this peace for the sake of both economic and social development. The committee praised the state government for bringing this matter to the Shura Committee, which is made up of respected scholars knowledgeable in Islamic law. They will be able to provide proper guidance to the government. He further mentioned that the key issues revolve around accusations against the Prophet, including claims that he had lice, urinated while standing, that there was nothing extraordinary about his birth, and that his parents are in hell. These accusations are viewed by them as mere allegations. The committee will listen to these claims and allow for a defense before starting their discussions, after which they will advise the government appropriately.
