An arms of iron opposes the Imams and oulémas of Senegal to the mairie de Grand-Dakar over a terrain located between the Edk station and the Massalikoul Djinan mosque. The religious, who claim to be proprietors, accuse the mayor Jean-Baptiste Diouf of “attempting to appropriate” after the demolition of a wall and the launch of works on the site, reports L’Observateur in its edition of Friday. On the other hand, the municipality, cited by the same source, refutes any spoliation, maintaining that the space is a public road relevant to the communal domain, and that it has never envisaged building a shopping centre there, but rather paving it for the general interest. To put an end to the litigation, the sous-préfecture asked the imams to provide proof of their ownership status. In the meantime, the tension persists, each camp maintaining its positions, warns L’Observateur.
