Dudafa, a former aide to Jonathan, has left the PDP and joined the APC.

Dr. Waripamo-owei Dudafa, who previously served as a Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters and Social Events, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Dudafa, a former Commissioner and once the youngest member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, made this announcement in a statement to reporters in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. In a resignation letter directed to the Chairman of PDP’s Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8 in Kolokuma Opukuma LGA, he explained that his choice to leave the party came after extensive reflection and discussions with his political peers, supporters, and family. “It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. During my time with the party, I have been firmly committed to our collective values and objectives, and it has been a privilege to collaborate with so many dedicated individuals,” Dudafa expressed in the letter. He elaborated on his reasons for departing the PDP, stating, “However, the ongoing and unresolved issues, particularly at the national level, have greatly hindered our progress and fostered an atmosphere of conflict that is, in my view, no longer suitable for promoting the shared values and goals we cherish. Even though this decision is challenging, I remain dedicated to serving the best interests of our people, driven by my commitment to their well-being and advancement.” Dudafa, considered a ‘godson’ of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, declared his shift to the APC, encouraging his followers to stay committed. “Following thorough reflection and thought, I have chosen to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party I feel presents a new sense of hope, unity, and a more solid base to address the issues confronting our beloved state.” I am eager to collaborate with new team members who align with this vision. Analysts think that Dudafa’s switch to the APC may indicate impending shifts in the political landscape in Bayelsa and beyond at the national stage.
