Former Real Madrid winger, Royston Drenthe, hospitalized after suffering stroke, sparking concerns across the football community.
The medical diagnosis of Royston Drenthe was announced by Madrid Xtra via a post on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).
Royston Drenthe Hospitalized
According to reports, the former Real Madrid and Everton winger, suffered a stroke on October 17, 2025, and is currently hospitalized.
The tweet reads….
”Former Real Madrid player, Royston Drenthe, has suffered a stroke and he’s in the hospital. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery ”.
Earlier, Royston Drenthe made headlines over allegations he made against Lionel Messi, claiming the Argentine star directed racist insults toward him during a LaLiga match in 2011.
However, Messi and Barcelona denied these allegations, but Drenthe maintained that it deeply affected him emotionally.
Notably, Royston Drenthe played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2012, joining for £12.1 million and winning La Liga title in 2008.
He left Real Madrid on June 30, 2012, after his contract expired and joined Alania Vladikavkaz in Russia on a free transfer in February 2013.
Additionally, he was loaned to Everton by Real Madrid in August 2011 for the 2011–2012 season.
Drenthe made 25 appearances and scored 3 goals for Everton.
