The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, took part this Monday morning, at the Ithookwe Stadium (County of Kitui), in the official celebrations of the Day of the Heroes (Mashujaa Day), at the invitation of his Kenyan counterpart, William Samoei Ruto. In his speech, President Diomaye paid tribute to the heroes of Kenya and Africa, underlining an essential conviction. “To celebrate our heroes is to preserve our history and strengthen our future”. According to the Presidency which gives the information on its Facebook page, beyond the single celebration in Kenya, President Faye has called for “a continental mobilization. He called for “an African synergy” around collective memory, aimed at valorizing the figures of resistance and liberation of the continent through “education and research”. Celebrated every 20 October, this day is a highlight of the Kenyan national memory, paying tribute to historical figures who have distinguished themselves for their courage and patriotism for the freedom and progress of the country. As guest of honour, the Senegalese Head of State was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Mrs Maria Benvinda Levy, members of the Kenyan government and the diplomatic corps. The solemn ceremony, marked by military and civil parades, cultural performances and symbolic tributes, was an opportunity to reaffirm the solidity of bilateral relations.
