The State made a major commitment yesterday, on Monday 20 October, in favour of rural development by starting the distribution of substantial financial aid in Ranérou, in the north of the country. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministère de la Famille, de l’Action sociale et des Solidarités, aims to directly support 2 052 foyers in the department. Each beneficiary household receives an envelope of 200 000 CFA francs, for a total investment of 410 400 000 CFA francs specifically allocated for this area of the Matam region. This aid is part of the Agricultural Resilience Project (PRA), a scheme implemented by the Ministry to facilitate farmers’ access to inputs and materials necessary for their activities. The Minister of Custody, Maïmouna Dièye, personally took part in the ceremony of launching the payments in Ranérou, in the presence of the Governor of Matam, Saïd Dia. It underlined the importance attached by the State to this department, affirming that the size of the financial allocation testifies to its central place in the national policy of resilience to the challenges of the primary sector. For Mrs Dièye, the PRA is more than just monetary assistance. It represents an “investment for the future”.
