A tragedy struck this Thursday the Pavillon A of l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) de Dakar, causing the death of a student and seriously injuring two others. Around 7:00, according to the Observer in its edition of this Friday 31 October, two powerful explosions occurred in the hall of the Pavillon A, causing panic among the residents. In a survival reflex, several students located at the upper floors attempted to flee by entering the balconies. Among them, El Hadji Mouhamadou Niang, a student in Licence 3 in the Arabic department and born in March 2003, fell heavily on the skull and died during his evacuation to the Hôpital Principal. His comrades, Ousseynou Gaye and Djiby Diagne, were admitted to the emergency room with serious injuries to the upper limbs. According to the report of the Directorate of the Technical and Scientific Police (SDPTS), consulted by le quotidien du Groupe futurs médias (Gfm), the incident resulted from an electrical failure. Deux motos électriques, commonly called “Chinese motos”, had been branché simultanément dans le hall du pavillon.
