Initially planned for 1 November, the Front for the Defence of Press Freedom (FDLP) was officially launched on Thursday 6 November 2025 at the Maison de la Presse Babacar Touré. This initiative, led by the main professional organisations, aims to defend freedom of expression, protect journalists and consolidate a free and responsible media environment in Senegal. During the ceremony, the Administrator of the journal Enquête, Mamadou Wane, insisted on the need for unity and brotherhood beyond differences. “We have different associations of journalists, press groups and press agencies. But we must all work to move in the direction of convergence and in the well-understood direction of the strict defence of our freedoms, it is fundamental. I’m not sure. Mr Wane stressed the importance of building a consensus around the basic principles guaranteeing access to fair and verified information.
