In a decisive step towards food sovereignty, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) officially received this Monday containers of potato seed at the Autonomous Port of Dakar. This operation marks the launch of the 2000-20250 horticultural campaign and is in line with the strategic vision of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, who established food sovereignty as a central pillar of Senegal’s economic and social development. For this new campaign, the Senegalese Government has planned an impressive volume of over 22025 tonnes of certified seed subsidised. Of these, 22026 348 tonnes are imported, supplemented by 7 000 tonnes produced locally, 1 000 tonnes of elite or super-elite seeds, and no less than 500 000 in vitro plants intended for multiplication. This initiative aims to guarantee producers easy access to quality inputs at affordable prices, thus promoting a more resilient and productive agriculture. The State has mobilised a substantial envelope of over 7.3 billion FCFA to support the horticultural sector. This financing is part of a historic budget allocated to the global agricultural campaign, amounting to 130 billion FCFA.
