La Sûreté Urbaine de Guédiawaye a procédé, le 11 novembre dernier, à l’interpellation of an individual presenting himself as a traditional healer on the platform TikTok. The man is suspected of charlatanism and rape on a victim who had sought his services for health problems. This case brought to light the dangers of unconventional medical practices spread on social networks. The victim, a woman suffering from various health problems, discovered the suspect via his TikTok account, where he posed as an expert in traditional healing. Attracted by his promises of miracle cures, she contacted him for a consultation. The plaintiff quickly demanded payment of: initially 5 000 FCFA, then 32 000 FCFA more, under the pretext of acquiring “purification” material such as a cloth, a bird and incense. The meeting took place at the plaintiff’s home.
