In a context of consolidation of the rule of law in Senegal, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, granted this Friday an audience to the President of the Constitutional Council, Aminata Ly Ndiaye, at the Palais de la République. This meeting, described as a regular exchange between the executive and the democratic institutions, aims to strengthen the role of the Constitutional Council in the institutional architecture of the country. During this working session, the two senior officials took stock of the current functioning of the institution. They examined the challenges identified, such as the improvement of time limits for dealing with disputes and the adaptation of procedures to the challenges of an evolving democracy. The discussions also focused on future reforms, in particular the consolidation of the constitutionality control mechanisms to make them more accessible, readable and reliable. These measures are part of a desire to modernise constitutional justice so that it is fully at the service of democratic stability, institutional transparency and citizens’ trust. The Head of State reaffirmed his attachment to an impartial constitutional justice based on the rule of law.
