​Thiaroye 1944 : the Government launches the preparations for the 81st anniversary of the commemoration 

  As the 81st anniversary of the Thiaroye massacre approaches, the Government has officially launched, on Friday 14 November 2025, the preparations for the commemoration. The installation ceremony of the committee responsible for organizing this historic event was held at the Administrative Building President Mamadou DIA, under the presidency of the Deputy Secretary General of the Government, Abdoulaye Faye, representing the Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, issued a communiqué de la Primature. In the presence of the members of the Committee, institutional representatives, cultural partners and the municipal authorities of Thiaroye, Mr Abdoulaye Faye recalled the importance of preserving and transmitting the memory of the Senegalese tirailleurs, victims of a massacre perpetrated on 1 December 1944. “We have the duty to keep alive this painful page of our history, but also to draw lessons for future generations”, he underlined. The SGA du Gouvernement, Abdoulaye Faye, has officially installed the Comité de commémoration du 81e anniversaire du massacre de Thiaroye, in homage to the Senegalese tirailleurs killed on the 1st of December. It was 1944. He spoke on behalf of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. He is a member of the Senegalese National Assembly. The Commemoration Committee, set up on this occasion, is entrusted with several key missions.
