Senegal has achieved a significant milestone in its energy modernization efforts with the receipt of 220 kV high-voltage cables from Dubai Cable Company (Ducab). This marks a pivotal step in the country’s ambition to achieve universal electricity access by 2026, as outlined in the national Plan Sénégal Émergent (PSE), a comprehensive strategy to transform Senegal’s energy infrastructure.
The newly delivered cables are set to strengthen the country’s electricity network by improving its stability and efficiency. This will help reduce the frequent power outages that have long affected many areas. Additionally, the project targets a reduction in the disparity of access to electricity between urban and rural regions, particularly focusing on marginalized rural areas.
As Senegal continues to experience rapid urban growth, particularly in the capital, Dakar, the upgraded infrastructure will be essential in supporting the increased demand from households, businesses, and industries. This initiative is a crucial element in accompanying Senegal’s urbanization process.
Moreover, the partnership between Senegal and the United Arab Emirates, symbolized by this technological advancement, marks a significant development in the economic and strategic relations between the two nations. The collaboration signals not only progress in Senegal’s energy sector but also a deepening of ties between the two countries.
