CAF Postpones 2024 African Nations Cup to August 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday that the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be postponed until August 2025. This decision comes after consultations with CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who have been working closely with officials in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The three host countries have made significant progress in developing the necessary infrastructure for the tournament, including upgrades to stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities. However, after careful evaluation, CAF’s experts advised that more time is needed to ensure these infrastructures meet the required standards for a successful competition.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his appreciation for the leadership and commitment shown by the Presidents of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. He praised their efforts in advancing the construction and renovation of key facilities.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and dedication to the progress of this project,” Dr. Motsepe stated. “I am confident that by August 2025, the infrastructure will meet CAF’s standards and will support a highly successful tournament.”

CAF also confirmed that the draw for the biennial competition will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday. Further details, including the specific start date for the tournament in August 2025, will be provided by CAF at a later time.
