The renovation of the Stade Jules-François Bertrand Bocandé de Ziguinchor and its conversion into a multidisciplinary stadium in accordance with the standards were among the 12 major projects of the commune of Ziguinchor, initiated in 2023 by the former mayor and current Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The initial objective for the basketball court was to construct only the stands. I asked the architect to create a closed room so that we could install a carpet on the parquet so that the youth of Ziguinchor could practice basketball in optimal conditions”, he noted at a press conference. He added: “The architect plans to review the plans he had drawn up and is engaged in this task, which explains why the re-development and rehabilitation of the Stade Jules-François Bocandé are currently blocked. After completing all this, we will proceed to the re-development and rehabilitation of the stadium in order to be able to launch the market. My ambition is to create this sports infrastructure for the benefit of the youth of the city of Ziguinchor”.
