Tedesco Dismissed as Belgium’s Coach

Belgium’s Football Federation has dismissed Domenico Tedesco from his position as coach of the senior national team. In a statement, the Belgian FA expressed that the national team “did not meet our expectations” during the Nations League and Euro 2024, where they were eliminated by France in the round of 16. “After a thorough assessment, the RBFA Sports Committee has decided to terminate its agreement with national coach Domenico Tedesco.” The Board of Directors has approved this decision. “The search for a new leader has begun,” stated an official release from the Belgian Football Association. Tedesco was hired in February 2023, succeeding Roberto Martinez after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Additionally, Okoye is currently under investigation for a suspected betting scandal. The 39-year-old began his time in charge with an impressive 13-game unbeaten streak, but the performance in Euro 2024 fell short. On Friday, Tedesco referred to his time as “a beautiful journey” that is “unfortunately coming to an end.” He noted, “This team is still in the early stages of its development and will make a big impact in the coming years.” Tedesco expressed his heartfelt wishes for the players, the dedicated staff of the federation, and the fans.
